05-20-2006 - National EMS Week Lynnhaven Mall

On Saturday May 20th, over 50 volunteers representing many of the 10 city squads came together at Lynnhaven Mall to recruit new volunteers and promote public safety.

Representing Rescue 14, Paramedic Ann Morse, Shock Trauma Tech’s Judy Jackson Summer Pruette , EMT’s Jim Heartwell, Janet Stinson and Derek Degges.

Team 14 handed out summer safety brochures 911 magnets and gave away “free black eyes and bruises” to the kids and adults. The Team also recruited shoppers to participate as victims in mock injury scenarios. After providing realistic injury makeup the “victims were placed in the mall center court and as Team 14 rushed to their aide one member would provide a gripping minute by minute accounting of the injuries sustained and describing the emergency medical care that the “volunteers” were providing.

The Chick Filet Cow and the Mall Care Bear stopped by to see the volunteers.
