Neptune Festival Sandman Triathlon draws 750 participants

On September 17 2006 Rescue 14 provided standby coverage for the Neptune Sandman Triathlon.

750 men and women facing a strong current and high winds entered the ocean at 32nd Street swimming to 24th Street. Upon leaving the water the group headed straight to their custom made bikes and pedaled from 24th Street to 89th Street and back to 24th Street.
The last leg of the Triathlon consisted of a run from 24th Street to 1st Street and back to 24th Street.

Rescue 14's standby team of Bobby Hill, Sylvia Russell and Nina Nerino assisted by volunteer manned trucks from Rescue 1 and 17 along with one of Rescue 14's duty trucks provided medical coverage.

Fortunately injuries were minor and only 1 runner required transport to Sentara Beach E.R.
