15th Annual Polar Plunge

On February 3rd, 2007 3700 brave souls jumped in the cold Atlantic Ocean in support of Special Olympics. The 15th annual Polar Plunge was held under beautiful clear skies with an air temperature of around 45 degrees with an ocean temperature of around 52 degrees.

The plunge kicked off when 2 Air National Guard F16 fighters flew in from the east directly over the waiting plungers. What a sight!

Virginia Beach EMS Volunteer Dive Team members supplemented by local Tidewater Area fire and police dive units were in the water prepared and ready to taken action should a plunger require assistance.

In addition Rescue 14 volunteers along with many of the other beach squads were staged on the boardwalk, the beach, ready to take action should an emergency arise.

Fortunately no reported injuries. Everyone had a great time.
