Opening of New Rescue Squad Station

Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad’s new Station 8, located in the Great Neck area at 1243 Bayne Drive off Old Donation Parkway near Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, hosted its public grand opening on November 8.

The event included an open house, tours of the new facility and a dedication ceremony. Speakers included VBVRS Captain David Whitley, Virginia Beach Rescue Squad Foundation President and Mayor-Elect Will Sessoms, Vice Mayor Louis Jones, Virginia Beach EMS Director Bruce Edwards and Station 8 Campaign Chair Tom Wilson. “Given the increasing amount of traffic in the area,” says Rescue Squad Captain David Whitley, “and the necessity to be on-scene quickly in an emergency, the value of an enhanced rescue squad building in this location was critical.”

The new facility includes 15,000 square feet of state-of-the-art rescue equipment with living facilities
including a health and fitness area and Langhorne Hall, a spacious meeting room that will be available for use by the community. Until now rescue crews have shared quarters with Oceana Fire Station 8, also located on Bayne Drive.
